07/25/2020: Chicago Cubs Vs Milwaukee Brewers Recap

Today, Yu Darvish hit the mound for the first time for the regular season. It was a rough game for the Cubs pitching staff.

In the 1st inning, Wilson Contreras lead with a run-scoring single. Later on the in the top of 2nd inning, there was a weird botched rundown which lead to Eric Sogard to tie the game. Corbin Burnes stirred up the pot when pitching some inside pitches. This caused a social distancing shouting match in the 4th inning.

Ben Gamel hit a 2-run triple to lead 3-1 against Darvish. Justin Smoak homered off of Duane Underwood in the 5th to make it 4-1.

Kyle Schwarber went yard wit h a 2 run home run against Brent Suter. That did not last long as, Christian Yelich also hit a 2 run bomb to bring in Brad Wieck.

Two more runs were added against James Norwood in the 7th Inning. The cubs had a bases loaded chance in the bottom of the inning, but could not pull through to hand the Cubs the first loss of the 2020 season.

Key Take Aways:

The Brewers bullpen outperformed the Cubs.

Yelich’s 6th inning blast made any comeback for the Cubs look bleak.

The Cubs Bullpen was a concern going into this season. With performances like this, it won’t make it easier.

The Chicago Cubs wrap up the series tomorrow on Sunday against the Brewers at 1:20 PM CST airing on the Marquee Network. Tyler Chatwood faces Peralta.
