Chicago Bulls at Los Angeles Clippers Postgame Analysis - 01-10-2021

The Chicago Bulls (4-7) fall short again against another Western Conference power, the Los Angeles Clippers (7-4). Two days after missing a go ahead jumper in the closing seconds to the Lakers, Zach Lavine missed the game tying 3 pointer against the Clippers.  Zach Lavine did all he could with a season high 45 points and 10 3 point field goals made.  Coby White also dished out a career high 13 assists and Patrick Williams poured in a career high 17 points.  Lavine also filled the stat sheet with 7 rebounds and 7 assists, while White added 9 points and 8 rebounds. This game was close throughout and there was a moment in the 3rd quarter where it seemed like neither Kawhi Leonard (35 points) and Lavine were going back and forth without missing with 5 straight 3 pointers. The game came down to the final minute and the Bulls were able to close the gap to 3 points in the final seconds but Lavine airballed a 3 to tie the game.  Overall for the game, the Bulls shot a scorching 61% from the field and 55% from the 3 point line, had a total of 30 assists for the team, and out rebounded the Clippers. This game really feels like it came down to the Bull’s 23 turnovers converted to 31 points for the Clippers.

This Bulls team is continually improving, it may not seem like it with the tough losses piling up, but the Bulls went down to the wire with a fully loaded and non-rested Clippers team that is vying for a title this year. This comes 2 days after the Bulls lost a heartbreaker in the final moments against the defending champs. Zach, during this 4 game west coast swing, has out-dueled some of the game’s elites in Damian Lillard, Lebron James, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George.  He is slowly becoming a star before our eyes and is playing like a complete player.  Any thought of trading him is crazy in my opinion. Coby and Zach continually seem to be improving by complementing each other nicely and White’s passing game, in particular, has been excellent.  He is finding open men continually, making the simple reads and passes, although he needs to take care of the ball better with 5 turnovers. The Bulls are just a few made buckets away from going 4-0 on this west coast trip. Williams looks so smooth with his style of play and his scoring comes so natural to him.  His defense in particular was excellent against Leonard and he has now guarded some of the top players in the NBA and held his own. Garrett Temple scored 18 points in the starting role for Otto Porter Jr. and has continually shown his value this season.
Unfortunately, the Bulls Vs. Celtics game scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed in accordance with the league’s Health and Safety Protocols.
