Chicago Cubs 08/08/22 Game Recap: Cubs 6 - Nationals 3

What a night for the rookies Nelson Velazquez and his best friend Christopher Morel. The pair hit back to back home runs to propel the Cubs with a victory against the Nationals.
Cubs Pitcher Keegan Thompson (9-5) pitched six innings with no walks.
As for the Nationals, Anibal Sanchez (0-5) pitched 5 + innings. Seiya Suzuki and Patrick Wisdom to started the sixth inning by hitting a couple of singles. This made the Nationals pull their starter. Nico Hoerner then hit reliever Steve Cishek’s first pitch for a single to center field to score Suzuki.
Joey Meneses hit a two-run homer off Cubs left-handed reliever Brandon Hughes in the 8th with 2 outs left. Hughes had allowed one earned run in his 13 previous innings prior to Meneses’ homer.
Rowan Wick pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 5th save in 7 chances.
The Cubs (44-64) won three out of the 4 games.. The Nationals (36-75) dropped their sixth straight game and have been outscored 51-20 during that span.
